Kids Drama Fair With Free Demos For Kids Through Teens

Brave New World Repertory Theatre, a company of Brooklyn-based theatre professionals is hosting a fun afternoon drama fair with theatre workshops and classes to introduce kids and teens (ages 3 to 18) to their exciting program that is set to open in April 2012. Held at the Brooklyn Lyceum, the sessions and demos will include theatre games, improvisation and comedy, Shakespeare for kids, teens and adults, movement and music and technical Theatre like scenic painting, green theater, stage combat, costume design for teens and puppet-making. Kids and teens can even get in on the act where they will have the chance to participate in various theatrical acts like a tap dance, puppet show or a sword fight from Romeo and Juliet. Through this interactive and hands-on day teens can also register and meet staff members from the Brave New World.

Footbridge Lobster Rolls: Voted Number One in the State of Maine

This sick lobster roll is the best I've ever had. It was about $14, and comes from Footbridge Lobster Rolls of Perkins Cove in Ogunquit, Me.

It was 100 percent meat, claw (as you can see easily) and tail, on a traditional New England style hot dog bun. Footbridge offers it with butter, mayo, either on the side, or plain. I had mine straight up, and didn't miss the oil at all.

My server said the meat was particularly fresh, but given the location and the fact that this shack is owned and operated by a real Maine lobsterman, I doubt the meat at Footbridge is ever not fresh.

At the end of the day, this is the best lobster roll ever. Must have had close to a pound of meat. Maybe the server was indulging me, but I went back and had a second roll and got the same fill, and another for my wife also the same.

Barnacle Billy's up the street is well worth a visit, but don't get your lobster rolls there. A stroll across the parking lot and over to Footbridge should be a daily must for every day you're lucky enough to visit Ogunquit.

NFL Extra Points: Ad for dads

So you can get an NFL Extra Points card and collect points on everyday purchases, and then cash those points in for NFL experiences? I guess the offer appeals to this dad, who's clearly indulging his daughter since there's something in it for him, too.

Secret to watching kids and catching a break

Everybody wants to be watched while they are doing their thing. So when my kid is about to jump off the big slide all it takes is eye contact and a big wow. As long as I watch what she's doing she's so happy. I can sit on the side, go on my smartphone and relax in general. Not that this qualifies as amazing father hood. But sometimes a guy needs a break, right?

My other little one loves when I pull out the camera and start shooting. She's not even a year old And she mugs for the camera like a star. Again everyone loves to be you watched whatever they're doing.

August 27: Old to the New: The T-shirt Project with Darren Goins
After collecting t-shirts from friends, family, neighbors, and co-workers we'll set out to reuse these once loved t-shirts from the inside out. Using a variety of materials and printmaking processes, scribble your own insignias, glyphs, and phrases onto the insides and wear them outside. Whoopie!

September 3: DIY Bookmaking with Linda Ganjian
Transform an ordinary sheet of paper into a small book by using paper, feathers, glitter, and anything else your heart desires.

September 10: Wooden Beast with Free Style Arts Association
Build a giant wooden creature out of hundreds of long thin pieces of wood. Utilizing tape, staples and screws, participants will actually build a real wooden sculpture in the form of a dynamic, bristling, imaginary beast.

September 17: Sprouted Sculptures with Harriet Salmon
Come make sculpture that grows! Using paper maché filled with real seeds, you can build sculptures that sprout into living creations. By pressing the seed-mush into recycled plastic packaging and other discarded forms, children will build objects that you can put out in the garden or in a flower pot and watch them grow into a creature. Add glitter, paint and other decorations to make the transition even weirder!

September 24: The Wonderful World of Terrariums with Danielle Frazier & Trenton Duerkson
Create your own miniature world of plant life! Bring along your favorite clear container, be it a fish bowl, plastic container, jug, jar, etc. Tiny crystals, rocks, figurines, or marbles also make great additions to any terrarium. We will supply the moss, seeds, some stones, soil and other accents to make these tiny landscapes as mystical as possible. With regular watering, you will be able to enjoy a living miniature habitat on your windowsill, all year long.

Netflix will replace The New York Times Co. on the Standard & Poor's 500 Index of publicly traded companies. The movie and TV show rental company moves up from the S&P MidCap 400 index for mid-sized stocks, while the newspaper and media company was demoted to that index.

Digital has net degraded NYT shareholder value while it has boosted Netflix. It comes down to superior alignment of content with delivery and external forces. In Netflix case that's long tail movies and TV shows plus broadband plus consumer adoption of delayed viewing habits.

Bugaboo in Park Slope for $360, now $420

Saw this stroller at 78 8th Avenue today. Advertised as "great condition" but the poster neglected to mention that the break didn't catch. Kinda important if your tot is hanging out on a hill. I was wary and a bit miffed that I drove the Toyota across the Slope only to find a stroller that wasn't in quite such great shape.

He called me 20 minutes after I left to say he'd fixed the break and it was working fine. I sort of agreed to come back, but D talked me out of it after I told her the guy let slip he paid $420 for it, which means he bought it used, too. And do you want your kid relying on a break that this guy fixed in 20 minutes?

Anyway, he reposted this evening, boosting the ask up to $420 - exactly what he said he paid for it.

shop rite is a humiliating experience

Fairway is cool and people don't care how much things cost. At shop rite they push and fight and line up for a few cents off.

Just spotted this gaggle from my window. The geese have returned to Brooklyn. Looks like they are flying over to Prospect Park.

Graco does it again: stroller recall

Gracious recalls stroller after 4 infant deaths.

Last year it was a stroller that severed kids' digits. Now it's a stroller that strangles. Or 2 million of them.
